A woman has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in Tennessee, after trying to self-abort.
Woman charged with murder in abortion case.
Investigators say that the woman tried to perform an abortion on herself which failed. Anna Yocca was arrested on Wednesday last week and jailed on a bond of $200,000.
The police report from the Murfreesboro police department in September stated that the woman filled a bathtub with water and attempted to self abort using a coat hanger. When she began to bleed heavily she started to get worried about her own safety.
Reports say that her boyfriend then took her to the hospital where the doctors were still able to deliver the 24-week baby, born at just 1 and a half pounds. The child will need medical support for the rest of its life dues to its prematurity and the injuries he sustained during the failed abortion attempt. The woman is due in court for her hearing later this month. It has not been confirmed if Yocca has an attorney or not.
It is important for family planning, and planned parenthood organisations to be allowed to help desperate women legally. If we take away their rights to abortions, some become so desperate that they put their own lives at risk. Women must be given free, safe, legal help with their sexual health and family planning. These organisations, although many pro-life activists say are murdering innocent babies, are actually saving women's lives.
