Pope Francis Opposes Contraceptives During Address in the Philippines!

Recently on a flight back to Rome, the Pope offered some friendly family planning advice to the press. He said that whilst in the Philippines he had met a mother of seven which he referred to as "irresponsibility". He continued to say that just because the Catholic Church prohibits the use of Contraception, does not mean that we must have big families.

 

“Some think, excuse me if I use the word, that in order to be good Catholics, we have to be like rabbits. But no.”

 

In the Philippines, the Catholic hierarchy has managed to restrict access to prophylactics. Whilst most countries are becoming more supportive of family planning as society develops, the Philippines has gone in the opposite direction. Contraception is discouraged and Abortion is completely prohibited under any circumstance!

 

According to them, using Condoms is anti-Filipino and anti-Catholic, insisting that natural methods are the only acceptable contraceptive method; almost complete abstinence apart from the few days a month that a woman is not very fertile.

 

We believe that women have the right to active, safe, free and healthy sex lives, that they should be able to protect themselves from Sexually Transmitted Diseases and be able to choose when and if they want a baby.
